Activities involved in the career
       Sociology focuses the study of human relationship. It finds out how people live and work together. It investigates what happens when people takes job, got married, join organizations, or deals with each other in a number of ways. Specialists who take career in sociology are called Sociologists. They learn about the causes of individual or group problems and ways of solving them. They also apply their skills in trying to predict situations where similar problems will occur. Sociologist areas of studies include propaganda, peace and war, health and diseases, Housing needs, consumer relations, city problems, public relations , personnel counseling, public attitude, industrial and labour relations and labour problems    
Career Prospects
  SOCIAL WORKER WITH GOVERNMENT, PRIVATE OR N.G.O. Graduates of sociology can be employed as social worker either by the government, private agencies or non-governmental organizations.
Social workers work with people and families to support them through difficult times and ensure that vulnerable people including children and adults are safeguarded from harm.
LABOUR UNION OFFICES- Graduates of sociology can build their career knowledge by working with labour union organizations such as Nigeria Labour Congress, Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and similar unions in other countries.      
                 They act as public relation officer for these unions to promote their image positively and to ameliorate in any possible rift between them and the government
  CRIME OR JUVENILE DELINQUENCY CENTERS; Government can employ graduates of sociology as a career manager in crime or juvenile delinquency homes. 
Sociologist with their  relevant experience and desire to make a difference in the lives of young people guide and support them in their personal, social and educational development to help them reach their full potential in the society and shun all evil practices or illegal behaviors.
  INDUSTRIES OR COMPANIES OR FIRMS:- Sociology graduates can take up career as human resources officer for industries, companies and private firms.
      As human resource (H.R) officer, they develop, advice on and implement policies relating to the effective use of staff in an organization, employs the right balance of staff in terms of skill and experience
  RESEARCH INSTITUTES:- Graduates of sociology can build career knowledge by working with research institutes such as cocoa Research institute of Nigeria (CRIN), Nigeria institute for oceanography and marine research, International institute of Tropical Agriculture and their likes institute as actuarial analyst
    As an analyst, they use statistical formulas to assess risk, project and predict likely outcomes of actions. They undertake research in public relations, marketing or sales or consumer behavior
  MINISTRY OF EDUCATION OR EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS:- Graduates of sociology can be employed in various department of educational institutes  such as Admissions, advertising, alumni relations, development and administration support.
  PRISON SUPERINTENDENT OR ADMINISTRATORS:- Career progression is easier for graduates of sociology in the prisons service where re-orientation are being programmed for the inmates and monitoring of behavioral adjustment.
  TEACHING AND RESEARCH IN THE UNIVERSITY:- A graduate of sociology can study for advanced degree to qualify him/her for teaching and research in the universities, colleges or professional schools. They start with research assistant before progressing gradually up the ladder
  ON-LINE JOBS:- A graduate of sociology can create job for him or herself by venturing into online jobs like freelance writing, online surveys data entry.  Any of these can fetch money in dollars if properly and correctly done.
